The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) as a dependable savings scheme for salaried employees. With equal contributions from both the employer and the employee, it helps build long-term financial security. What is an EPFO Passbook?

The EPF passbook is an online document that displays monthly contributions made to your EPF account by both you and your employer. It allows you to check your EPF balance, view interest earned, and review your transaction history. To access the passbook, you must first complete UAN Registration on the EPFO Portal. Once registered, the passbook becomes available for viewing or download after six hours.

Note: If your EPF account is inactive or has already been settled, you will not be able to access the passbook.

How to Check Your EPF Passbook Online?

You can quickly view your EPF passbook online using the official EPF Portal. However, you must be a registered member to access or download it. Once your registration is complete, you can check and download your EPFO Passbook through the following methods:

EPFO Passbook Download From the EPFO Portal

The EPFO passbook can be downloaded using four different methods. Each technique is explained in detail below.

EPF Portal
  • Enter Your UAN and Password – Log in using your registered Universal Account Number (UAN), password, and the captcha code, then click on the “Sign In” option.
EPFO Passbook Login
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number for verification.
  • Select Member ID – If you have multiple Member IDs, choose the one for which you want to view the passbook.
EPFO Passbook Download
  • View/Download Passbook – Your EPFO passbook will appear on the screen with your complete transaction history. You can also download it as a PDF for future reference.

EPF Passbook Download from the UMANG App

Employees can download their EPFO passbook through the UMANG app without needing to visit the EPFO Portal. Follow the steps below:

  • Download the UMANG app on your mobile device or laptop.
  • Go to the ‘All Services’ section and select ‘EPFO’.
  • Open ‘Employee Centric Services’ and choose ‘View Passbook’.
  • Enter your UAN. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP on the UMANG app to verify and continue.
  • You will see a list of Member IDs linked to your UAN.
  • Select the desired Member ID to view or download your EPF passbook.

How to View Your UAN Passbook Online?

You can follow the steps below to view your UAN passbook online:

  • Visit the EPFO website and click on ‘UAN Passbook’. Log in using your UAN, password, and the captcha code.
  • After logging in, select the ‘Passbook’ option from the dashboard.
  • Choose the EPF account linked to your UAN.
  • Your EPFO Passbook will be displayed on the screen.
  • You can view the details or download the passbook in PDF format for future reference and contribution tracking.

Who Can Access the EPF Passbook Online?

All active EPF members can access their passbooks online through the official EPFO portal. However, the following categories are not eligible for this facility:

How to Check EPF Balance?

Here are the different ways you can check your EPF balance online and offline:

1. EPFO Portal

To view your EPF balance on the EPFO portal, make sure your UAN (Universal Account Number) is activated. Once done, follow these steps:

  • Visit the EPFO portal and log in using your UAN and password.
  • Click on the “Our Services” tab.
  • Select “For Employees” from the dropdown.
  • Under the “Services” section, click “Member Passbook.”
  • On the next page, enter your UAN and password again.
  • Once logged in, you can view your EPF passbook and check your current EPF balance.

2. UMANG App

You can also check your EPF balance through the UMANG app (the “m-Sewa” app of EPFO). Here’s how:

  • Open the UMANG app and select “EPFO” under Employee Centric Services.
  • Click on “Member”, then choose “Balance/Passbook.”
  • Enter your UAN and registered mobile number.
  • After verification, your latest EPF balance will be displayed.
  • If your UAN and mobile number are not linked, you will receive a mismatch error.

3. SMS

If your UAN is linked with your KYC details, you can check your EPF balance by sending an SMS in the required format to the official EPFO number.

4. Missed Call

You can also check your EPF balance by giving a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. Ensure your UAN is linked to your KYC details for this service to function properly. After the missed call, you will receive an SMS with your updated EPF balance information.
